Michael Kors (Michael David Kors), born Michael Karl Anderson Jr. is an American Fashion Designer. He is also the Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of his own brand named after him. His brand produces both men’s and women’s apparels and ready-to-wear, accessories, watches, jewelry, footwear and fragrance. He was the first women’s ready-to-wear designer of the French House Celine from 1997 to 2003. His company, Michael Kors Holdings Limited changed to Capri Holdings Limited on the 2nd of January 2019.

His interest in fashion came when he was still very young. He redesigned his mother’s wedding dress for her second wedding when he was just five years old. He designed clothes as a teen and sold them out of his parents’ basement. At the age of 14, he decided that he would become a fashion designer and has stuck with this dream until he achieved it. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 1977 but dropped out after nine months to take a job. His first job was at a boutique called Lothar’s in Midtown Manhattan as a salesperson, later designer and visual display head for the store.
Michael Kors launched his Michael Kors women’s label at Bergdorf Goodman in 1981. By 1990, he was a licensee in the company. His licensing partner caused the filing of a Chapter 11 in 1993 forcing Kors to put his line on hold. By 1997, he had gotten back on his feet and launched a new line and at the same time was named the first women’s ready-to-wear designer for French house Celine. He launched his menswear line in 2002 and left Celine the year after to focus on his brand. He launched his own line called the MICHAEL and it joined the previous Michael Kors Collection Label. The line featured women’s handbags and shoes as well as women’s ready-to-wear apparel.
By 2016, Michael Kors had over 770 Lifestyle stores around the world including his collection stores in New York, Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Chicago, and Southampton along with overseas stores in London, Paris, Cannes, Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul. His designs have been worn by several celebrities including Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Heidi Klum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Michelle Obama.
