Michael Troughton Biography
Michael Troughton is an actor, writer, and teacher from England. He is known for his roles in television productions and films such as Enigma (2001), The Heart Surgeon (1997), Testament of Youth (1979), Minder (1979), and Statesman (1987). He is also one of the sons of actor Patrick Troughton who was known as the Second Doctor in Doctor Who in the 1960s.

Michael began appearing in television productions in the early 1970s and has appeared in numerous film, television and theatre roles. Her most notable role is Melish in the British drama film Minder and as Sir Piers Fletcher-Dervish in The New Statesman from 1987 to 1992.
He starred in the first series of the sitcom Backs to the Land. In 1998, he had roles in the Taggart episode “Out of Bounds” as Derek Halliday, a senior science master, and a therapist in the fourth series of Cold Feet and Mr. Mermagen in Enigma.
In 2002, Troughton took a break from acting to take care of his disabled wife as well as obtain a science degree, from the Open University. He then taught Physics at Sir John Leman School in Beccles for two years, before moving to Woodbridge School to become the Head of Drama.
By 2009, he had ceased teaching and became a full-time carer. He also wrote his father’s biography “Patrick Troughton: The Biography of the Second Doctor Who” and it was published by Hirst Publishing. It was launched at the 2011 Dimensions Convention in Newcastle in November 2011. In 2013 he returned to acting, appearing in the ITV series Breathless. He has also completed a number of audio dramatisations for Big Finish.
Troughton’s last documented acting was in 2014 in the television programme “Doctor Who” Christmas Special Last Christmas episode as Professor Albert.
