Born on March 29, 1964, in Newport Beach, California, United States, Ming went to The Miami Valley School and later joined the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He then attended Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1986.
Later, he enrolled in Cornell University, receiving a master’s degree in hotel administration and hospitality marketing in 1989. He also enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris during the summer after his sophomore or junior year at Yale University.
