Mishal Husain met Jon in 2002 when they were both based in the BBC’s Washington bureau, and she discovered his culinary skills one night over dinner at his home. He cooked a delicious chicken dish and was generous enough to part with the recipe when Mishal asked for it.
When she subsequently cooked it herself, it wasn’t half as good as Jon’s version. Jon Leyne’s Lime & Lemongrass Chicken that he gave to Mishal comprised browning as many chicken thigh fillets as you think you need for four people in sesame oil.
The next thing is to remove them and then add them to the pan. Add two teaspoons grated lemon rind, two red chilies, two stalks lemongrass, two kaffir lime leaves, and one tablespoon brown sugar.
Two teaspoons grated galangal is also necessary, together with two teaspoons of ground cumin, one tablespoon lime juice, and one teaspoon tamarind paste. Stir and cook for two minutes, then return chicken to the pan. After all that is done, add one cup of coconut cream and one cup of chicken stock. Simmer for 30 minutes and serve with rice.

Jacob-Rees Mogg attacked the BBC for its wrong approach in an interview after being quizzed about why he tweeted a quote from the leader of Germany’s far-right AfD party. The Tory MP shared a video of AfD co-leader Alice Weidel accusing Germany of “negligence and failure” in failing to keep Britain in the EU. Mogg was quickly accused of giving a platform to an “overtly-racist” party, with the AfD widely considered to be both anti-immigration and anti-Islam.
The party laid out its opposition to gay marriage and same-sex adoption in its most recent manifesto. The leader of the ERG said that BBC presenter Jim Naughtie had “quite shamefully” been allowed to compare the ERG to France’s far-right National Front on the Today program.
It comes after Naughtie quoted a source, saying: “Somebody put it to me the other day, look, in any other European country the Conservative Party wouldn’t exist in its current form. The ERG, Jacob Rees-Mogg’s group, in France would be in the National Front because that’s what they believe, and in Germany, they’d be in the AfD.”

Speaking to the BBC Radio 4’s host, business and Industry Minister Nadhim Zahawi said the new COVID 19 90-minute tests may be used in schools.
Asked if the tests could be part of the plan to get children back to school, he said: ”Yes, they can be rolled out to other settings, including schools, as I said because one of the great innovation from these two brilliant gentlemen is that this can be administered without someone having technical abilities.” But pressed by the BBC host on whether it is part of the plan for schools, Mr. Zahawi snapped: ”There is a plan already for schools, Mishal, and we are going to have kids back at school, September 1.
”This is a further enhancement of our capabilities, and as we roll this out we will obviously be looking at other settings, including schools, to roll it out into.” Two tests that can detect COVID 19 and flu and promise results in 90 minutes are to be rolled out in hospitals, care homes, and laboratories.
