Mitch Carr has been part of the North Texas scene since driving a rental truck (with AMC Hornet in tow) south from Indiana in 1975. His radio career began as a teenager on KGBX-1260AM in Springfield Missouri. Four years in the U.S. Air Force put Mitch on AFRTS radio and television in Japan as well as doing voiceover work on USAF training films.
After an honorable discharge (SSGT Mitch!) he moved to Indiana to attend Butler University. His campus claim to fame is having attended basketball games in the arena seen in the movie “Hoosiers”, although Gene Hackman was not around. Mitch worked at WIFE-AM and WNDE/WFBQ in Indianapolis until moving to Dallas.
In 1985, Mitch joined the Ron Chapman Show on 103.7 KVIL. Mitch moved with Ron to 98.7 KLUV in September 2000 and then made the transition to Newsradio 1080 KRLD in the summer of 2009. Mitch was honored to be inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and is a member of the Texas Association of Broadcasters.
Mitch is married to Illeen and they enjoy travel, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with their daughter’s family (including two “perfect” grandchildren).
Mitch’s travels have taken him to the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Egypt as well as to Germany, France, Ireland, Morocco, Ecuador, and many other exciting places.
His hobbies include American and World History (especially the Civil War and WWII).

1975 meant KLIF in Dallas and then a call from the great Bud Stiker brought him to FM102…which soon became the powerhouse AOR station Q-102……Four years at the Q—-followed by a stint at KMGC and KIXK and Metro Traffic.

Mitch Carr Wife, Married, Wedding
Mitch Carr is an anchor, reporter and multi-skilled journalist for 12 News. He joined Team 12 in February 2019 as a weekend anchor and reporter and contributes across all shows and platforms.
Prior to joining 12 News, Mitch worked as a freelance reporter at WRAL, the NBC affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina, covering the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Previously, he worked for four years as the Sports Director at WRIC, the ABC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia.
Earlier in his career, Mitch served as a general assignment news reporter at WGHP, the Fox affiliate in High Point, North Carolina, and as a morning news reporter at KLAS, the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas, Nevada. He began his career as a general assignment news reporter at KLBK, the CBS affiliate in Lubbock, Texas.
A graduate of the University of Miami, Mitch double majored in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish. He also studied abroad in Mexico City and Vina del Mar, Chile. Mitch is fluent in Spanish.

My name is Mitch Carr, and I am a storyteller with a passion for sports. I am currently a weekend news anchor, reporter, and show host for 12News in Phoenix (KPNX).
Prior to that, I spent four years as the Sports Director at 8News in Richmond (WRIC). I have also worked as a general assignment news reporter in North Carolina, Nevada, and Texas. I am originally from Richmond, Va., and I attended the University of Miami on an academic scholarship. I finished at Miami with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish, and I can speak my second language with confidence.
I played football and basketball in high school, and I am most knowledgeable about those two sports, but I enjoy pretty much any athletic competition.
