Old Dominion Band Members
-
Matthew Ramsey
Matthew Ramsey is lead vocals for the group. The country music singer and songwriter grew up in Buchanan, Virginia, and currently lives in Nashville with his wife and two daughters.
Ramsey first made his way to Nashville in 2000 to pursue a career as a songwriter, and that’s when we met Trevor Rosen– the duo is considered the first two members of Old Dominion.
Old DominionHe has penned several extremely successful songs, like The Band Perry’s “Chainsaw”, Craig Morgan’s “Waking Up Lovin’ You”, Dierks Bentley’s “Say You Do”, and Kenny Chesney’s “Save It For a Rainy Day”.
-
Trevor Rosen
Trevor Rosen grew up in Woodhaven, Michigan, and first started learning guitar at age 16. He moved to Nashville in 2003 to pursue a career in songwriting, which is when he met his future bandmate, Matthew Ramsey.
In 2013, Rosen signed with SMACK town Music and Wrensong/Reynsong Publishing. He has written songs for a number of celebrated musicians over the years, including “Pioneer” for The Band Perry, “Fuse” for Keith Urban, “Riser” for Dierks Bentley, “Bringing Back the Sunshine” for Blake Shelton, and “Kill the Lights” for Luke Bryan.
-
Whit Sellers
Whit Sellers plays the drums for Old Dominion. He met Ramsey in middle school around Roanke, and Sellers became friends with Tursi and Sprung at James Madison University.
The group separately made their way to Nashville to pursue music careers, but in a matter of years, the fates brought them together to form Old Dominion. According to CMT, Tursi, Sprung, Rose, and Sellers all worked as Ramseys backing band multiple times.
-
Geoff Sprung
In an interview with CMT about how the band was formed, Sprung once said, “It was kind of this organic thing. The band was doing as much as we could while pursuing other stuff and it hit a point where things got busy enough that we said, ‘We have to give this an honest go.’”
The musicians finally came up with the name Old Dominion in 2007. Sprung says, “It was a struggle to come up with a name that reflected our Virginia ties. We tried state birds, state flowers, and every reference. We assumed there was already a band called Old Dominion, but when we Googled it, all we got was a vet service.” Geoff is the bassist for the group.
-
Brad Tursi
Brad Tursi is a Connecticut Native but grew up around country music as a kid. He once told 30 Festival, “When I was younger I would always make fun of my Dad for listening to country music, and now I am here writing it. Whoever knew he was so cool. There’s gotta be a song in there somewhere”.
The songwriter and musician wrote songs for Kenny Chesney, Maddie & Tae, Frankie Ballard, Swon Brothers, Josh Turner, and Joey Hyde.
Tursi played soccer as a high school student in Westport, Connecticut, and in 2015, his song, “A Guy Walks Into a Bar”, was certified gold by the Record Industry Association of America.
