Jamie started his acting career in 1955. His first film roles were in Blackboard Jungle and as a fruit vendor in Kismet (uncredited). After this, he was drafted into the United States Army. Warner Brothers cast him in 1958 as the co-pilot of a TB-25 in the Andy Griffith military comedy No Time for Sergeants, which also brought the young TV comic, Don Knotts, to motion pictures. He was cast as Thaddaeus in the 1965 film The Greatest Story Ever Told, along with minor roles in Who’s Minding the Mint? and With Six You Get Eggroll.
By 1965 Jamie was cast in My Three Sons Season 5, Episode 10, The Coffee House, as a beatnik. He was cast in an episode of Hazel as a soon-to-be father who owned an Italian restaurant in 1964 and in October 1972, he was hired for one day’s work as Corporal Maxwell Klinger on the M*A*S*H episode “Chief Surgeon Who?” His character wore dresses to try to persuade the army that he was crazy and deserved a Section 8 discharge.
Jamie and Anita Gillette opened Flamingo Court(a three-act play at the New World Theaters in New York City)on 17 July 2008. Jamie was seen promoting the M*A*S*H television series and other classic television series on the MeTV television network between late 2016 and 2018. He had a recurring role on Fox’s The Cool Kids. Jamie currently hosts a daily radio travel feature called Travelin’ Farr.
