Rena first played Lois Marie Cerullo on General Hospital. She made her first appearance in 1993 as a band manager and her first high-profile role was as Rocky McKenzie on the daytime soap opera Loving (1988–91). She would later return as a guest star (February 7–17, 1997; September 30 – October 2, 1997). Her portrayal of the outrageous Lois earned her Daytime Emmy Award in 1995 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Rena has been cast in various high-profile prime-time television series in guest star/supporting cast member roles including, The Chronicle, Seinfeld, Melrose Place,  Ed, Friends, Spin City, Blind Justice, NCIS, Two and a Half Men, and Ghost Whisperer, 24.

In 2008 Rena was cast on Two and a Half Men, as a former girlfriend of the character Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen).  She has also guest-starred on Dirty Sexy Money playing an intrepid reporter and played a ghost on Ghost Whisperer. Rena started a recurring role on NCIS as Attorney Margaret Allison Hart, a potential love interest for the character Leroy Jethro Gibbs in early 2010

As a child actress, Renee made films and commercials from age eight onwards. She was cast in the TV sitcom Still Standing as middle sister Lauren Miller from 2002 to 2006.
