Career
Donald was signed as a free agent by the Montreal Canadiens in 1992 and spent parts of three AHL seasons with the Fredericton Canadiens before becoming an NHL regular. His 1993–94 AHL season saw career highs of 38 goals and 66 points, along with 250 Penalty Minutes (PIMs) in 62 games. Making his NHL debut on November 15, 1993, against the Ottawa Senators, he registered an assist and scored his first NHL goal two days later against the Edmonton Oilers.
After four seasons with the Canadiens, a heated exchange with Head Coach Mario Tremblay on November 9, 1996, led to his trade to the Vancouver Canucks for Jassen Cullimore four days later. In the 1997–98 season, Brashear led the NHL in penalty minutes, setting a Canucks franchise record with 372 PIMs and adding 18 points.
The following season, 1998–99, marked the only time he played all 82 games, again leading the Canucks in penalty minutes and finishing eighth in the NHL. In the 1999–2000 season, despite setting a career-high in goals with 11, a highly publicized incident of excessive violence marred the season.
McSorley incident
During a February 21, 2000 Canucks home game against the Boston Bruins, Brashear fought Marty McSorley, winning handily and taunting the Bruins’ bench. Later, Brashear collided with Bruins goaltender Byron Dafoe, injuring him. Seeking a rematch, McSorley swung his stick at Brashear’s head, causing a grade-three concussion. McSorley received an indefinite NHL suspension and assault with a weapon charge.
At trial, Brashear had no memory of the incident, while McSorley claimed a missed shoulder hit led to the headshot. McSorley was found guilty and sentenced to 18 months of probation. The incident ended McSorley’s career, and Brashear returned to play before the season’s end.

Seattle SuperSonics
Petro was chosen as the 25th pick in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. On March 30, 2007, Petro achieved a career-high of 22 points in a 120-93 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies.
March 5, 2008, Petro secured a career-high of 15 rebounds in a 106-118 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Regrettably, the SuperSonics faced challenges during this period, undergoing a rebuilding phase after the departure of superstar Ray Allen in 2007.
Petro, unfortunately, did not experience playoff success with the SuperSonics. The team later moved to Oklahoma City and became the Oklahoma City Thunder in Petro’s final season with the team during the 2008-2009 season.
Denver Nuggets
On January 7, 2009, Petro was traded to the Denver Nuggets, along with a 2009 second-round pick, in exchange for guard Chucky Atkins, a conditional 2009 first-round pick, and cash considerations. The Nuggets initially didn’t retain Petro, making him an unrestricted free agent. However, they re-signed him on August 27, 2009.
With the Nuggets, Petro experienced team success as Denver made the playoffs in 2009 and 2010. During the 2009 playoffs, they advanced far by defeating the New Orleans Hornets and Dallas Mavericks in 5 games each in the first and second rounds, reaching the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1985.
Despite facing the Los Angeles Lakers led by Kobe Bryant, the Nuggets fell to the Lakers in 6 games. This marked Petro’s deepest playoff run in his NBA career. The Nuggets reached the playoffs again in 2010 but were unfortunately defeated in the first round by the Utah Jazz.
