A Republican, he was elected governor in 2018. He and his wife Sarah have six children. Stitt is the second Native American and member of the Cherokee Nation, to serve as governor of Oklahoma after Johnston Murray.
On 15th, July 2020, her husband announced that he had tested positive for the coronavirus, becoming the first U.S. governor known to have been infected during the COVID-19 crisis.
