Following a career in classical violin, Radin achieved an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering, and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
After his graduation, Radin also worked at Bell Labs and then performed research at GTE Laboratories, University of Edinburgh, SRI International, Interval Research Corporation, Princeton University, and was a capability member at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
