He was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the Rookie of the Year, an honor that his teammate Orr had commandeered the previous year. It remains the only time in Bruins history that they had consecutive Calder winners.

In June, 1969, New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath called to gauge Sanderson’s financial interest in a bar similar to Bachelors III, which Namath had owned on New York City’s Upper East Side before the league commissioner Pete Rozelle ordered him to cut ties or retire from football.
