Likewise, Neil was a founding member of the male doo-wop-style vocal group and record production company The Tokens. Before this, he formed a band, the Linc-Tones, along with his mates in Abraham Lincoln High School,

It is known that Sedaka’s band had minor regional hits with songs such as While I Dream and I Love My Baby. Afterward, he left the group in 1957 after launching his solo career. Citing this, The Linc-Tones was renamed the Tokens near the end of Sedaka’s tenure with the group.

Most noteworthy, Neil first three solo singles, Laura Lee, Ring-a-Rockin, and Oh, Delilah!. His song Ring-a-Rockin’ earned him the first of many appearances on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand). Suring this time, he was signed to a RCA Victor recording contract.
