Dugan started his acting career in the year 1972 when he appeared in different films such as ‘Night Call Nurses and the TV movie ‘The Girl Most Likely to….’ (1973). In the year 1979, he was cast as the time-displaced heroin ‘Unidentified Flying Oddball,’ Disney’s very loose adaptation of ‘A Connecticut Yankee’ in King Arthur’s Court. In 1981, he appeared in Joe Dante’s adaptation of ‘The Howling.’
Dennis played a semi-regular role on ‘Hill Street Blues,’ as an erstwhile caped crusader who called himself “Captain Freedom.” He also appeared in ‘Empire’ and ‘Shadow Chasers’ in 1984. In the ’70s, he made guest appearances on several TV series such as ‘The Waltons, Cannon,’ ‘Columbo,’ ‘The Mod Squad,’ and ‘Alice.’ He also appeared in the mini-series Rich Man, Poor Man,’ and M*A*S*H. He starred in ‘Richie Brockelman, Private Eye,’ in 1978.
