Paul Pierce: Lakers should trade LeBron if they get No. 1 pick
LeBron James doesn’t have a no-trade clause. The NBA world really wants you to know that useless bit of information in light of the lost season the Los Angeles Lakers have endured. James’ detractors are obsessed with the notion that the Lakers should trade the league’s best player, and sure enough, one of his former rivals jumped in on the trade talks. Paul Pierce thinks the Lakers should trade James under one specific circumstance: winning the NBA Draft Lottery and the right to pick Zion Williamson.
The “three years of LeBron vs. 15 years of Zion” debate is actually a pretty interesting one. Your answer says quite a bit about your priorities as a basketball fan, and neither side could be faulted depending on the specific team surrounding both.
But here’s the thing… Pierce literally phrases James and Williamson as an “or” proposition. But a cursory glance at the CBA reveals that there is no lottery tax. Either the Lakers win the No. 1 pick or they don’t. They don’t have to give up James to get Williamson. If the Lakers win the top pick, they could, you know, keep the two of them together.
Imagine James, one of the greatest passers in the history of basketball, setting up Williamson, perhaps basketball’s greatest athlete already, for easy dunks. The two of them would create one of the most dynamic duos in all of the basketball from the start, and they would free the Lakers up to trade their other young players for better fitting pieces. Who cares if James and Williamson aren’t elite shooters? The Lakers have an entire roster full of assets to deal to get them.
The Lakers could deal Williamson to get Anthony Davis. As tough as it would be to sacrifice 15 years of him, the result of doing so would probably be an immediate title. Zion, by himself, is worth more than any realistic package any other team could offer. He has more trade value on his own than Davis does. The Lakers could send him to New Orleans for Davis and keep all of the rest of their assets. It might actually make sense to trade him.
But to trade James? What would even be the point? The Lakers already have plenty of young talent to grow around Williamson. Unless they could turn James into a true superstar on Williamson’s timeline, it would just make more sense to let LeBron stay and mentor his eventual replacement. If anything, trading him would only prove to a rookie superstar what an unstable and untrustworthy organization the Lakers really are. Is that the message the Lakers want to send to their presumptive franchise player?
The Lakers probably aren’t going to win the lottery, but if they do, it will be a chance for them to enhance the team they already have. Not an excuse to tear it down and build a new one.

Paul Pierce’s thoughts on if the Lakers get the No. 1 pick: ESPN analyst and former Celtic Paul Pierce expressed some unconventional thoughts regarding the NBA draft. The Lakers, who currently have a 3 percent chance to get the top pick, are the team that needs Duke star Zion Williamson the most, according to Pierce.
And Pierce continued his line of reasoning, saying that the Lakers should trade LeBron James if they get the top pick.
“If the Lakers got the number one pick, I would trade LeBron James,” Pierce said to a stunned cast of fellow ESPN analysts. “You’re talking about three years left of LeBron, or 15 of Zion, let’s go.”

Paul Pierce finally explains the reason behind his infamous wheelchair exit in the 2008 NBA Finals
Paul Pierce is coming clean about a moment that has lived in infamy from the 2008 NBA Finals.
The Boston Celtics faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals that year, and despite the Kobe Bryant-led Lakers being heavily favored entering the series, it was the Celtics who emerged victorious after six games and Pierce claiming the Finals MVP award.
While the series was notable for a few reasons, the most memorable occurrence was when Pierce was escorted out of Game 1 in a wheelchair due to an unspecified injury. He returned a few minutes later, which led to many speculating that the injury was fake. Why would he need a wheelchair only to hustle back from the locker room in such a short period of time?
Well, it’s 11 years later and it may have taken over a decade, but Pierce has an explanation — and it had nothing to do with being hurt. However, the reason why he went out on the wheelchair was that he apparently had to use the bathroom.
And so it’s confirmed — Pierce not only faked the injury, he simply could not contain himself during the opening game of the Finals.
We don’t know if this was due to nerves — it was Pierce’s first-ever Finals game — or if there was something else which caused the issue. It’s best to not further analyze and simply leave it to Pierce to explain.
But on the bright side, Pierce was able to overcome this setback and lead the Celtics to their lone NBA title in the past 32 years.
