Following college, he was a second-round pick (41st overall) by the Houston Rockets in the 1992 NBA draft, but his rights were traded to the Dallas Mavericks for Eric Riley. After a season in Europe, he joined the Mavericks for three years before being traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jimmy King, his former Michigan Wolverines teammate.

His standout season came in 1995–96 with the Mavericks, averaging 11.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. In the previous year, he averaged 10.3 points and 10.6 rebounds. Throughout his NBA career, he maintained per-game averages of 7.0 points and 7.4 rebounds. Notably, he set a Mavericks record with 28 rebounds in a single game during the 1995–96 season.
