Questlove Supreme is a weekly podcast hosted by The Roots drummer Questlove. Episodes are released on Wednesdays on Pandora. A combination of interviews, humor, pop culture and music, the program features guests such as Maya Rudolph, Solange, Shep Gordon, Q-Tip, and The Revolution. The consequence of Sound summed the show up as a “music junkie’s dream,” specifically for its “handpicked mixtape of Questlove-approved jams.”
The show began as an extension of the music courses Quest taught at NYU and is what he calls “black nerd version of NPR.” To prepare for each episode, Questlove personally listens to around 200 songs. He describes the partnership with Pandora as, “…a commitment deeper than any girlfriend I’ve ever had, or any diet I’ve tried to stick to.”
The second season of the podcast launched on April 26, 2017, with a three-part episode featuring Babyface. New features were also introduced, including a condensed format, chapter segments that allow listeners to revisit and pause the episode and the ability to listen to past episodes. “Quest’s Cheesesteak” is made with Impossible™ vegan meat, will be sold at Phillies home games
The Roots’ Questlove has designed a signature cheesesteak. The vegetarian “Questlove’s Cheesesteak™” is made with Impossible™ plant-based meat. (The cheese is not vegan/plant-based, a Quest representative confirmed to Pitchfork.) The sandwich will be available at all Philadelphia Phillies 2019 home games, as well as 40 Live Nation-owned venues across North America.
Check out Questlove’s Cheesesteak™ below. Quest is no stranger to signature foods. He used to have a New York fried chicken restaurant called Hybrid. Recently, he launched a popcorn collection with Williams Sonoma.
Questlove Restaurant
Nor is Quest a restaurateur, though he briefly owned a very good fried-chicken stand at the Chelsea Market with Philadelphia restaurant scion Stephen Starr. And he isn’t a food journalist, though last year he wrote a cerebral romp through culinary creativity called Something to Food About (Clarkson Potter), and he’s developing a documentary on black chefs with W. Kamau Bell.
Questlove Fried Chicken
Roots drummer and budding restaurateur Ahmir Thompson, who’s better known to the world as Questlove, takes to Immaculate Infatuation to cheekily plug his Chelsea Market fried-chicken stand, in the process revealing an ad hoc taxonomy of his picks for the city’s best fried chicken.
Onetime rival David Chang gets high marks for his spiced variety at Momofuku, Blue Ribbon and En are mentioned, and Mission Chinese gets a shout, but the highest praise, of course, goes to his own restaurant, about which the musician-polymath declares “nothing can compare to the Hy this bird provides.” Sounds about right, but Quest also mentions Doug E.’s Fresh Chicken & Waffles, which has been closed for a while, and meanwhile, where’s Charles’ Pan-Fried Chicken? Questlove D’angelo
Beloved for his prolific output and technical chops, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson is widely regarded as one of the finest drummers of his era. The Philly native is best known for his work with the Roots, D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, and as part of the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
