Regis Philbin was a renowned  American television personality well known for hosting a number of popular programs. He was well known for notably the talk show Live! With Him and Kelly “1988–2011; originally called Live! With Him and Kathie Lee” and as well the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Philbin was enrolled at Our Lady of Solace grammar school in the Bronx., He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School. He later joined Philbin the University of Notre Dame. Later and graduated with a degree in sociology in 1953.

Career

Regis began his career after his graduation from Notre Dame, He worked in the U.S. Navy. he was then discharged from the military, he started off his television career with several entry-level jobs in Hollywood, including a post as a film-delivery man at KCOP-TV in Los Angeles, California. His first national exposure was in 1967.

Philbin was Joey Bishop’s sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show. This show was popular ran from 1967 to 1969 The following year he continued hosting multiple shows. He was paired with Kathie Lee Johnson and later (later Gifford) In June 1985 Philbin. The show became nationally syndicated in September 1988 as Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. The talk show as well as an incredibly high rating year after year. Gifford left the show in 2000.

As he searched for a new full-time co-host he still had a very successful show. He won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2001 for “Outstanding Talk Show Host. ”Kelly Ripa was chosen as the permanent co-host, and the show was renamed Live with Regis and Kelly. The hosting duo became successful and the show continues to earn high ratings. In 2008. His contract with ABC was renewed through to 2011. His new contract reportedly earns him more than $21 million. In 2010 Philbin announced his plans to retire from Live with Regis and Kelly in November 2011.

What Happened To Regis Philbin

He launched a campaign in Oct. 2017 over his own health issues, including having triple bypass surgery in 2007. Philbin said he was surprised to learn that many high cholesterol sufferers stop taking their statin a common drug for lowering cholesterol. He said he wanted to share his story, and hopefully, encourage others to talk to their doctors about their cholesterol and heart health.
He shares with the AJC how he discovered his health issues, how he manages his health. Regis said that “Back in 1992, I was shooting a commercial down in Florida on a cruise ship with Kathie Lee Gifford. I started experiencing chest pains, so they called a doctor, and he told me I needed to go to the hospital immediately. I was shocked to learn I had a blocked artery and would need angioplasty right away. Then in 2007, I found out I had to have triple bypass surgery. I couldn’t believe it.

I remember having shortness of breath and some chest pain when I was on the tennis court and also on the treadmill at the gym. I knew I had to go see my doctor. It was then that I was told I needed to have triple bypass surgery. I remember calling my good friend Dave Letterman who had just been through it himself, and he was very helpful. He put me in touch with the surgeons who did his surgery, and he called and reserved the same hospital room and even the same operating room that he’d been in. Of course, I ended up in Dave’s monologue a few times, and he had some fun with this.

Before my experience with heart disease, I didn’t have much discipline when it came to my diet. Since then, I still enjoy foods I’ve always loved, but I mostly stick to chicken and vegetables for weekly dinners. I try to practice a little more moderation. I work out at a gym around three days a week and lift weights to help my strength and muscle tone.
