After life-saving surgery, KSDK Sports Director Rene was being called a medical “miracle”. For the last two-and-a-half years, Rene couldn’t use the treadmill. In fact, he was only using about 20 percent of his lung capacity. “I think about the times trying to get around Busch Stadium and I couldn’t walk from the dugout to the gate to leave the stadium without stopping two or three times to catch my breath,” he said.
When Rene got back to St. Louis, he finally relented as well as going to the emergency room. That’s when tests disclosed some shocking news– he had blood clots in his lungs. “Because of that, it caused the right side of my heart to enlarge which is pulmonary hypertension,” Rene said. Pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs.
