His family is Jewish, though not especially religious. He grew up with his older sister older than him by 9 years and a brother by 6 years.

Lewis’s father spent most of his time in his catering business, and his siblings had both left home by the 1960s, leaving Lewis at home alone with his mother, with whom he did not get along so well. Lewis was recognized for being the class comedian and causing problems in school. Career

Lewis started his career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1970s, after he was discovered by comedian David Brenner, who assisted him in getting his first appearance on The Tonight Show playing as Johnny Carson in 1974.

In the year 1985, Lewis released his first comedy special, called I’m in Pain, which was followed by I’m Doomed (1990) and I’m Exhausted (1988). Also, Lewis appeared in several movies during this period, such as Daddy Dearest (1993).

In the year 1992, Lewis was given the role of Warren Sheffield on the ABC sitcom Anything but Love. Lewis received two Golden Globe nominations for his outstanding performance on the show.

Following the success of Anything but Love, Lewis continued to perform in television and movies. In early 2000, he started appearing as a semi-fictionalized version of himself on the HBO sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, and he has remained a recurring cast member on the show throughout its run.
