    Richard Roxburgh Career

    After graduating from NIDA, Roxburgh immediately began to cooperate with the Sydney Theatre Company. He played the role of New South Wales Police Detective Roger Rogerson in the 1995 TV miniseries “Blue Murder”, which gained public attention.

    The company’s film and stage productions include the critically acclaimed role of Hamlet, starring Geoffrey Rush, Jacqueline McKenzie, and David Wenham, at the Belvoir Street Theater in 1994, Sydney.

    In December 2007, he played the protagonist Roland Henning in Michael Goff’s “Toy Symphony” at the Belvoir Street Theatre. He won the Helpman Award for Best Dramatic Actor in 2008. In 2000, Roxburgh appeared in the first of many internationally renowned movies, as the partner of the villain Hugh Stamp in “Mission: Impossible 2” directed by Yusen Wu, which was shot in Sydney.

    It was also shot at the Moulin Rouge in Sydney! (2001) Baz Luhrmann, in which Roxburgh played Roxburgh, appeared as three iconic roles in the next three years: He played Sherlock Holmes in the dogs of Baskerville, and Professor Moriarty, Holmes’s mortal enemy, in 2003 The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the chart.

    Since 2004, Dracula has been working at Van Helsing. He is one of the two actors who played these three roles, and the other is Orson Wells who played them in various radio shows. Roxburgh directed his first film “Romulus, My Father”, starring Eric Bana and released in 2007. The film won an AFI Award in December 2007 and received several other nominations.

    Roxburgh played Vanya alongside Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, and John Bell in the 2010 Sydney Theatre Company production. In 2013, he returned to STC to play the weaving role in Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”, weaving as Vladimir and Roxburgh as Tarragon.

    In 2014, Roxburgh starred in Edmond Rostand’s play “Cyrano de Bergerac” 1897. In 2015, STC’s De Bergerac played Roxburgh in the film adaptation of Chekhov Platonov’s play “The Present” adapted by Andrew Upton for STC.

    Directed by John Crowley, starring Cate Blanchett, Jacqueline McKenzie, Marshall Napier, and Toby Schmitz. This work was moved to the Ethel Barrymore Theater in New York in 2016-17 for the Broadway premiere of Roxburgh and other actors.
