During Criswell’s time at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Warren worked at the Texas Ranch for Christ, a ministry facility of Billie Hanks, Jr., where he began writing books. Rick Warren Purpose Driven Life
Purpose Driven Church 10th anniversary edition, with emphasis on the question What on Earth Am I Here For? is the life message of Rick Warren, founding pastor of Saddleback Church. Written in a captivating devotional style, the book is divided into 42 short chapters (six weeks) that can be read as a daily devotional, studied by small groups, and used by churches participating in the nationwide 40 Days of Purpose campaigns.
The most common question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should watch within, at their own desires and dreams, but Warren says the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for bringing us on earth.
This book takes the innovative message of the award-winning Purpose-Driven Church and goes deeper, applying it to the lifestyle of individual Christians. This book helps readers understand God’s incredible plan for their lives. Warren enables them to see the big picture of what life is all about and begin to live the life God created them to live.

Rick Warren Quotes Purpose Driven Life
- Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can’t make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.
- It is not enough to just say relationships are important; we must prove it by investing time in them. Words alone are worthless.
- My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action.
- Relationships take time and effort, and the best way to spell love is “T-I-M-E.”
- The more you pray, the less you’ll panic. The more you worship, the less you worry. You’ll feel more patient and less pressured.
- You were made by God and for God and until you understand that, life will never make sense
- Forgiveness must be immediate, whether or not a person asks for it. Trust must be rebuilt over time. Trust requires a track record.
- Resentment always hurts you more than it does the person you resent. While your offender has probably forgotten the offense and gone on with life, you continue to stew in your pain, perpetuating the past. Listen: those who hurt you in the past cannot continue to hurt you now unless you hold on to the pain through resentment. Your past is past! Nothing will change it. You are only hurting yourself with your bitterness. For your own sake, learn from it, and then let it go.
- Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.
- God sometimes removes a person from your life for your protection. Don’t run after them.
