Herjavec was born on September 14, 1962, in Varaždin, Croatia. Herjavec is a graduate of New College at the University of Toronto with a degree in English literature and political science in 1984. Herjavec took on various minimum wage jobs in the 1980s, such as waiting tables, delivering newspapers, retail sales, as well as debt collection to make a living and help support his family.
