Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Playwriting
Roberto wrote the play Archie’s Wierd Fantasy which was scheduled to debut in Dad’s Garage Theatre Company in Atlanta. The play was to depict Archie and his friends from Riverdale growing up, coming out, and facing censorship.
The company he worked for, Archie Comics issued a cease and desist order, saying portraying Archie as gay would dilute and tarnish his image. It opened a few days later as Wierd Comic Book Fantasy changed the name of the characters.
He later became a writer and producer for the Riverdale Series and CCO of Archie Comics. Since then he has earned notable recognition for writing Award-winning series and plays such as Big Love, It’s a bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman, Marvel Divas, Spider-man: Turn off The Dark, Glee, and recently Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Roberto grew up liking comic books since he was young. He would read and draw pictures from the comics. He was hired by Marvel To write for marvel Comic and his first submission was not what the company was interested in the characters but they still hired him. He was signed for the Fantastic Four which was published in 2004.
Aguirre went on to write Fantastic Four stories in Marvel Knights 4, a spinoff of that superhero team’s long-running title, and stories for Dead of Night featuring Man-Thing, Nightcrawler vol. 3, and The Sensational Spider-Man vol. 2.
He created Afterlife with Archie in 2013, portraying Archie Andrews in the center of a zombie apocalypse, the book’s success led to Aguirre-Sacasa being named Archie Comics’ chief creative officer.
