Moloney portrayed the fictional character Jarrod “Toadfish” Rebecchi in the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera. It was the first broadcast on the Seven Network on 18 March 1985. It was created by TV executive Reg Watson, who proposed the idea of making a show that focused on realistic stories and portrayed adults and teenagers who talk openly and solve their problems together.
The show’s storylines concern the domestic and professional lives of the people who live and work in Erinsborough, a fictional suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. The series primarily centres on the residents of Ramsay Street, a short cul-de-sac, and its neighbouring area, the Lassiters complex, which includes a bar, hotel, café, police station, lawyers’ office and park.
Two-decade Toadie would love to see Neighbours head back to Sydney for a shoot
AFTER his two decades on Australian television, many would think Ryan Moloney, aka Neighbours’ beloved Toadie, would be used to the spotlight.
In Sydney to celebrate this 20-year anniversary on the show, Moloney said he still found it difficult to be the centre of attention. “I’ve had 25 interviews today, it’s quite strange — I’m happier to fly under the radar,” he said. Once a regular visitor to the Harbour City where he met his wife Alison Hayward, Moloney has not made the trip north for seven years.
The 35-year-old said he always looked forward to coming to Sydney and hoped to see another Neighbours episode filmed up this way.
“I would love to see Neighbours come back up here.”
“I love the beaches and around Tamarama but also all the bars and restaurants around the city.”
Far from the chubby-cheeked youngster that debuted on the show in 1995, the actor is maintaining a three-month self-imposed break from alcohol.
Moloney is continuing to maintain his slender frame while recovering from spinal surgery earlier this year. After his week in Sydney, the actor will be straight back to work on the iconic set from today.
