Asanda Foji Departure from generations
She acknowledges that she shot most of the scenes nervous because it was her first television role.
What made her even more nervous was the knowledge that she was being watched by millions of viewers. As much as she studied theatre acting, the Simphiwe role was a big transition for her.
“I know that my acting was not impressive.
“I was nervous most of the time. The nerves really worked against me and it showed on television,” she confesses.
“There was a lot of pressure and I was new. It’s funny that I was not intimidated by the camera and lights though,” she says.

One of Foji’s weaknesses was that she could not show emotions.
“It’s a skill I have learned as I got along.
“In my latest scenes I achieved it, maybe that is why my acting looked bad. As an actress, you constantly grow,” she said.
For someone acting on television for the first time and alongside seasoned actors like Rapulana Seiphemo, Connie Ferguson, Manaka Ranaka and Ronnie Nyakale was intimidating.
At some point she would forget her role and marvel at the stars in action. “There were times where I would forget that I was acting and looked at these people and realised how lucky I was to work with them,” she says.

Asanda Foji NEWS
It took Asanda Foji six years to get onto Generations
In a recent interview on SABC 3’s Afternoon Express Asanda shared how it took her six years to get onto Generations after leaving Cape Town for the City of Gold. In her audition for Generations, she initially had auditioned to be Jason’s younger half-sister alongside Namhla, played by Thuli Phongolo, at the time she did not get the role.
The actress eventually auditioned again for the role of Simphiwe, but in order for her to get that role, it took her six auditions to finally get her break through after being shortlisted amongst thousands of other hopefuls.
Not long after her debut on Generations, there were rumors that she had been fired from the show because the creators of the soapie were not happy with her acting. A number of tabloids ran with the story.
According to Asanda, she was aware of the story but to her managers, she decided to act as though she did not know about her apparently getting fired when one of the Generations managers asked her about the rumor. Her manager then went on to tell her that she should ignore the rumors as they loved her acting on the show and that she wasn’t going anywhere, but deep down she knew she was leaving.
“…Where there’s fire there’s smoke…” she said.
After leaving Generations, Asanda placed all her energy in creating her own fitness range called the Asanda Foji Gym Wear
Asanda tailor-makes all her gym gears for all her customers as she understands that women come in different shapes and sizes. Customers send in their orders with all their measurements, she then makes their gym clothes accordingly.
