Dj Zinhle Career
She stepped onto the South African DJ scene at a time when it was still very much of a man’s world, but this talented lady quickly managed to turn some heads with her crazy skills on the decks. She even grabbed the attention of some of Mzansi’s most respected DJs, such as DJ Oskido, and has today become one of the best female house DJs in SA.
DJ Zinhle never planned on becoming a DJ. In fact, she only got into it because of chance and circumstance. Her brother Zak owned a company that hired out sound equipment, and he had so much love for music that he would always de-stress through mixing vinyls at home. One day he showed her how mixing works.
Her first proper gig happened when she was helping her brother set up for an event. The DJ was late, so Zinhle stepped in and the rest, as they say, is history. Well, not quite… She did, after all, have to break some ground by entering an industry dominated by men.
Zinhle always knew she wanted to work in entertainment and initially trained to be a TV presenter. It seems she was destined to appear on our screens, despite career change, as she got her first big break with the dance show Jika Majika. Jika Majika is a popular SABC1 youth show that showcases the latest dance moves. Zinhle was a resident DJ for the show from 2006 to 2009, this pushed Zinhle into the spotlight and made her a household name.

Dj Zinhle Interview
5 minutes with Dj Zinhle
DJ Zinhle’s got a new gig and we got the juice. Season 5 of SABC 1’s popular DJ talent search show, 1’s and 2’s, returns to our TV screens with DJ Zinhle as one of the judges. The first episode was screened on Sunday and we caught up with her to get the lowdown.
What are your feelings on being the newest judge on SABC’s DJ talent search show 1’s and 2’s?
Dj Zinhle: Definitely excited, I have seen the show before and I’ve always wanted to be part of it as a judge.
What are your expectations for the show?
Dj Zinhle: The main objective is to unearth new talent, give them a break and much-needed exposure as well. I hope everyone will be able to change their lives through the show, that is the biggest thing for me
Your advice to up and coming DJs?
Dj Zinhle: Hard work is one of the biggest things, but you need to have a plan of what you want to get done, be consistent as well as have respect for relationships.
What are you working on at the moment? Any new collaborations for the future?
Dj Zinhle: Still working on my album. In future I want to do something with Lizha James from Mozambique and to work with more African artists as I want to grow into the continent and leave more footprints out there
What do you think the South African music industry needs more of?
Dj Zinhle: Shows such as 1’s and 2’s on SABC1. We need to get the talent out there but also equip them with the necessary skills. If they watch the show it gives lessons and a holistic view of what the industry is like
Songs that motivate you are?
Dj Zinhle: Emazulwini by DJ Ganyani and a song called Sonini by Sun-EL musician. These are the two songs I’m listening to which really motivate me.
Do you have a favourite item in your wardrobe right now?
Dj Zinhle: I recently bought a Dolce and Gabbana bag. It’s a collector’s item, it’s one of those beautiful tiny bags, I bought it with the vision to give it to my daughter one day. It’s absolutely insane, that is my favourite.
If you could invite any five people for dinner, who would they be?
Dj Zinhle: Michael Jackson, my late dad, my brother Zak, Nelson Mandela– I’m very ambitious, and my daughter Kairo.
If you had one day left to live, how would you spend it?
Dj Zinhle: With my mom and daughter like and eating all our favourite foods.
Which three albums changed your life?
Dj Zinhle: Dangerous by Michael Jackson,My first album, Feminine Touch . I listened to a lot of Joyous celebration growing up, so definitely one of their albums.
At the end of a long day, how do you relax?
Dj Zinhle: I love TV, so catching up on series, if there is a new episode of Modern Family, which is my favourite sitcom at the moment, my life is made.
DJ Zinhle News
Did you have to go back, Zinhle?
Every wannabe in town obviously came out to the launch of the AKA Beam World App this week.
Bathong! DJ Zinhle seriously took back that man-child AKA with his ridiculous blonde head.
Shwa spotted the two holding hands as she came out to support him. Pity my camera phone died before I could capture the moment.
Yes, go ahead and write another verse about me Supa Mega.
Dj Zinhle Latest News: DJ Zinhle on new bae rumours
DJ Zinhle has responded to weekend reports, which claimed she found love in the arms of flashy Namibian businessman Collin Venaani, explaining that the pair are just friends.
Sunday Sun sources claimed Zinhle and Collin were spotted all loved up in a Johannesburg nightclub three weeks ago and that the real estate businessman was keeping her mind off her alleged break-up with Brendon Naidoo.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE on Monday, DJ Zinhle’s management refused to confirm whether she was dating Collin or not, but revealed they had become friends over their shared interest in real estate and design.
“Her home project has led to a greater interest in property, décor and design, which has opened multiple opportunities for Zinhle. Collin and Zinhle have become friends through this newly found interest,” her PR manager Jessica Porter said.
She said that Zinhle’s focus was solely on her music, child and new home.
“Zinhle is currently completely focused on her daughter Kairo, her career and settling into their new home.”
Zinhle has in the past refused to comment about her private life, only speaking out occasionally on social media during her relationship with Brendon.
Speaking about the toll building her new home had on her health, Zinhle recently told TV host Tumi Morake that at one point she felt so overwhelmed she thought she was going to die.
Zinhle said she learnt to cope with the endless demands by taking it one moment at a time and leaning on the support of others.
“I make it work but I have been feeling a little overwhelmed lately. It is a bit too much. Especially with the house project, I thought I was going to die at one point.”
