She started dating DJ Sbu in 2009 but they later broke up in 2010. It was alleged that they broke up due to DJ Sbu’s ‘bad publicity’ and that it was doing damage to Terry’s L’Oreal ambassadorship and therefore she was instructed to break up with him. During an interview on Real Talk with Anele she said that those were just rumours and they are good friends.

At the age of 21 years she was spotted by casting agent Moonyeenn Lee in a theatre group in Soweto during the casting process for Tsotsi.
She has acted in several Television series which include the SABC1 drama series Justice for All , Zone 14 , as Pinky Khumba, and Jacob’s Cross, as Mbali. Pheto was also cast on the lead role of Fikile in the SABC2 mini-series Hopeville, from March to April, 2009. Later the series was made into an award-winning film. After leaving South Africa to try her luck in Hollywood,in 2011, she landed a recurring role of a heart surgeon, Dr. Malaika Maponya, on the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. In 2012, she was the subject of an episode of the Nicky Greenwall-hosted documentary series The Close Up, which aired on e.tv and the eNews Channel . She was a featured subject in the first episode of the second season of the SABC1 reality series Play Your Part, aired on 9 July 2012. She was a guest judge on the SABC1 reality competition Class Act, in 2010, in the “Film Noir” episode.
She also acted in the theatre productions The Toilet and The Devil’s Protest, directed by Thulani Didi. Pheto was named as the new face of L’Oréal, in July 2008 . She also featured in numerous magazines, including Destiny, Vanity Fair, Drum, You/Huisgenoot, Y-Magazine, Bona, Heat, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and True Love.

For Mampho Brescia and Terry Pheto, it was love at first sight
Meeting someone for the first time generally gives us an indication whether a friendship will evolve or not. A heart-warming story about two people developing an amazing friendship happened to Terry Pheto and Mampho Brescia. The two met on the set of Jacob’s Cross and a connection was made. A guest on Afternoon Express, Mampho conveyed to viewers that it was love at first sight. After conversing for a while the two found that they had something in common and that they both want to be bond girls. Briefly.co.za learnt that Mampho said that was it, the girls found love for each other and since then the rest is simply history. The duo were lucky enough to live together in Los Angeles. Many fun times were had and Mampho said it was a real good time.
To be able to share such an experience with your bestie in itself is amazing. As Mampho explained, they were able to attend auditions and after that were able to train together, and should they be sad, there was always a shoulder to cry on.
Adjusting to living in America was a challenge and they did it together.
Mampho mentioned that the time they spent together was not only crazy but a time where they build an awesome relationship.
