Thulisile Phongolo is a South African actress, TV Personality and voice over artist. Thulisile is popularly known for her role as Namhla Diale in the soap Generations.

In 2012 she was a cast member on the drama series Tshisa which aired on SABC 1.
In 2013 she joined Craz-e, an e.tv kids and youth programming block alongside Stephanie Sandows.
In 2014 she was unveiled as one of the new cast members of Generation. She portrayed the character of Namhla Diale.

“At first‚ I struggled with the technicalities of acting. It’s not just talent that’s needed‚ but the ability to understand the way things are done‚” she said.
She explained that in order to do so‚ she learnt to ask questions. “I’ve since learnt to ask questions from experienced personalities and take note of everything that happens around me at work. Reading and practising has helped me a lot as well as exposing myself to real life situations helps with my acting‚” she said.

She was a co host of the youth talk show, Sistahood, alongside Kriya Gangiah and Stephanie Sandows. The show focused on female teen issues.

Who is Thulisile Phongolo?
Thulisile Phongolo: Thulisile Phongolo is ordinary girl with an extraordinary personality. I’m spiritual, loving, smart, ambitious and the list goes on. Not forgetting that I’m quite crazy so CRAZE did no mistake in hiring me. Lol
What inspires you and your love for tv?
Thulisile Phongolo: The craft and how effective stories and messages passed through television can be…inspires me. You not only doing what you love but you’re connecting with masses like it or not.
How does it feel to be part of the “craze” team?
TP: It’s amazing. I’ve learned so much in a short period of time and it has also allowed me to challenge myself.
When did you get your first big break into the industry?
Thulisile Phongolo: Last year (2012), with Tshisa on Sabc1.
Are you always conscious on what people think about you?
TP: At first I did but now that I’m growing up and understanding myself better, I couldn’t be bothered by what people think about me.
Who is the one person locally and one person internationally would you like to interview?
Thulisile Phongolo: Locally, Basetsana Kumalo and internationally Oprah Winfrey. It would be an honor to interview them.
Besides TV, what else do you do?
Thulisile Phongolo: I study Marketing Communication and I have great interest in business, the mining industry to be specific.
Are there any lessons learnt from being on tv?
Thulisile Phongolo: Definitely, be comfortable with you are first before you put yourself out there.
What do you do for fun?
TP: Go out with friends, watch movies, read, spend time with my family, try out new things and listen to music.
Who do you look up to in the industry and why?
TP: Basetsana Kumalo, she’s proof that hard work pays off. She’s a dime and represents strong woman.
Where do you see yourself in 5years time?
TP: I see myself in great positions within the media industry and the corporate world. Done with my degree as well as honors. Successful, growing and still learning.

Thuli Phongolo’s last day on the Generations’ set was super emotional

After four years on Generations: The Legacy, actress Thuli Phongolo took a bow and her last day on set provided bittersweet memories that were captured in snaps.
The actress’ departure from the popular SABC1 soapie was announced in February. Since then she has opened up about her gratitude to the soapie that launched her career and her plans going forward.
However, Thuli found herself getting emotional when she finally called it a wrap and she wiped away a few tears as she bid farewell to Namhla.
“This moment with Gogo got me after shooting my last scene… it’s been nothing but magical working with such genuine and loving people! Namhla surprised me! I didn’t think she’d turn out the way she did. Every year she provided me with more depth and growth that taught me a lesson. After 4 years of being on Generations: The Legacy …today I’m taking a bow. Thank you for allowing me to live my dream!”
Thuli thanked her fans for their support over the years as well as her colleagues for helping her grow as an actress and a person.
Thuli’s on-screen family also posed for pictures and wished her well in her future endeavours.
Manaka Ranaka, whose character is Namhla’s thuggish mother, wrote her a sweet note.
“I enjoyed every single moment with you in it. I wish you all the best my darling. Now go kick some ass… I know you gonna do good.”
