Thulisile Phongolo Biography
Thulisile Phongolo was born on 22nd January 1994. She is an actress, TV Personality and voice over artist. She is popularly known for her role as Namhla Diale in the soap Generations.
In 2009 while she was at grade 9 she entered the inaugural Miss Teen Soweto which took place at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.
Undergradute student at the University of Johannersburg where she is studying a degree in Strategic Marketing Communications.
Secondary school student at Allen Glen High School.
Thulisile Phongolo Acting Career
In 2012 she was a cast member on the drama series Tshisa which aired on SABC 1.
In 2013 she joined Craz-e, an e.tv kids and youth programming block alongside Stephanie Sandows.
In 2014 she was unveiled as one of the new cast members of Generation. She portrayed the character of Namhla Diale.
You would think that acting is as simple as putting on your shoes in the morning but‚ as Thulisile told True Love Magazine‚ you have to be careful not to trip up.
“At first‚ I struggled with the technicalities of acting. It’s not just talent that’s needed‚ but the ability to understand the way things are done‚” she said.
She explained that in order to do so‚ she learnt to ask questions. “I’ve since learnt to ask questions from experienced personalities and take note of everything that happens around me at work. Reading and practising has helped me a lot as well as exposing myself to real life situations helps with my acting‚” she said.

She was a co host of the youth talk show, Sistahood, alongside Kriya Gangiah and Stephanie Sandows. The show focused on female teen issues.

What inspires you and your love for tv?
Thulisile Phongolo: The craft and how effective stories and messages passed through television can be…inspires me. You not only doing what you love but you’re connecting with masses like it or not.
How does it feel to be part of the “craze” team?
TP: It’s amazing. I’ve learned so much in a short period of time and it has also allowed me to challenge myself.
When did you get your first big break into the industry?
Thulisile Phongolo: Last year (2012), with Tshisa on Sabc1.
Are you always conscious on what people think about you?
TP: At first I did but now that I’m growing up and understanding myself better, I couldn’t be bothered by what people think about me.
Who is the one person locally and one person internationally would you like to interview?
Thulisile Phongolo: Locally, Basetsana Kumalo and internationally Oprah Winfrey. It would be an honor to interview them.
Besides TV, what else do you do?
Thulisile Phongolo: I study Marketing Communication and I have great interest in business, the mining industry to be specific.
Are there any lessons learnt from being on tv?
Thulisile Phongolo: Definitely, be comfortable with you are first before you put yourself out there.
What do you do for fun?
TP: Go out with friends, watch movies, read, spend time with my family, try out new things and listen to music.
Who do you look up to in the industry and why?
TP: Basetsana Kumalo, she’s proof that hard work pays off. She’s a dime and represents strong woman.
Where do you see yourself in 5years time?
TP: I see myself in great positions within the media industry and the corporate world. Done with my degree as well as honors. Successful, growing and still learning.
