Walter Mokoena Biography
Walter Mokoena is a South African sports personality. He was born in 1978 in Carolina, Mpumalanga as the first child in a family of 4 siblings, three sons and one daughter, to Aaron German Mokoena and Betty Velephi Nene.
He graduated from Mphanama Comprehensive High school in 1996, where he was passionately involved in student politics and elected president of the SRC – the youngest in the school’s history at just 16 years old.

Walter Mokoena Career
He started a career in broadcasting in 1998, after getting a break at P4 Radio Cape Town (now known as Heart FM). He also began Freelancing in the same year for City Press newspaper as their Cape Town soccer correspondent. In August of the same year, Walter joined Kaya fm as a Sports anchor for their breakfast show, as well as the Soccer talkshow host.
In 2000, he joined the SABC, as an anchor for the popular Saturday afternoon prime-time sports show, Mabaleng. He would go on to host many flagship shows on SABC 1, such as the Monday night Coca Coca Soccer Zone for 4 years; the Friday night boxing show, Blow by blow for 4 years and the Live Football show, Laduma, for 10 years.
In 2004, he presented the 2010 FIFA World Cup host nation announcement live from Zurich, as well as covering the Athens Olympics.
Founded and published a weekly Football magazine, Football Arena, which was his second Football publication that he had founded. The first was SoccerLife 442, which he later sold to Avusa Media, now Times Media Group.
In 2010, he presented the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He then took some time off to assess a stellar career and the way forward, with a 3 year sabbatical to Paris.
In 2013, he joined Paris-based Sports network, Trace Sports, as one of their anchors. He discovered a passion, the Water business. He joined global water giant Suez Environment as their consultant for the South African market and underwent training at their centres in Paris. This would be the birth of a new entrepreneurial venture, Complete Environment.
He returned to South Africa in 2015 and re-joined the SABC as their Football anchor.

In 2016, he presented the European championship in France. He graduated with his honours degree in Policy & African Studies from the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) School of Leadership. He is currently studying towards his Masters degree in Water governance and Diplomacy at UJ.

He wed his long term girlfriend, Nosizwe Vuso in Pretoria at a private ceremony which saw former President Jacob Zuma, amongst others, in attendance. Vuso regards President Jacob Zuma as her father after Zuma raised both she and her twin sister.
