Originally a private house for the Thune family, Sakina House is built in Swahili style on the ruins of the original house. Sakina, meaning peace in Arabic, is an apt word to describe this elegant house.
There are 3 en-suite rooms, 2 of which have adjoining single rooms suitable for a child. The rooms are furnished with 4 poster bed and Lamu table, chair and cupboard. The bathrooms are adorned with Lamu lamps and ornaments, including shells as soap dishes. Each floor has terraces and balconies. Meals are sewed on the rooftop terrace, which has views of both sea and village, is equipped with a fridge and shaded by a thatched roof. The chef specialises in Swahili cuisine and seafood.
The lovely swimming pool extends from indoors to the outdoor courtyard.
Activities include boat trips, water sports and tours of Lamu Old Town and Shela Village. Sakina Safaris, affiliated to Sakina House, has a motorized dhow which is fully equipped for excursions including deep sea fishing.
Sakina Safaris can also book trips to destinations in Kenya. The house can be rented as a whole for a minimum of 3 days.
