Sam Troughton is an English actor; the son n of David Troughton and the grandson of Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton.

Sam studied drama at the University of Hull, graduating in 1998. His younger brothers are the former Warwickshire cricketer Jim Troughton, and actor William Troughton.

Sam is a Shakespearean actor who has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Sam has starred in the horror films Spirit Trap and Alien vs. Predator, and several television productions including Sky One’s Hex.

He has also appeared in the SAS-themed drama, Ultimate Force. He appeared in the BBC Robin Hood series (2006–2009), in which he features as Robin’s ex-manservant, Much.

His grandfather, Patrick, starred in the first Robin Hood television series in 1953.

Sam’s stage roles include Orlando in Samuel West’s production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Sam returned to the RSC as part of the 2009–2011 ensemble, appearing at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.

He played Marcus Brutus in Julius Caesar and Third Gentleman in The Winter’s Tale in 2009. Later in 2010, he played Romeo in Romeo & Juliet and King Arthur in Morte D’Arthur at the Courtyard Theatre.

He was also involved in a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire in Liverpool.

In 2013, he played Thomas in Bull at the Crucible Studio Theatre in Sheffield. Later in January 2014, he played Edmund in King Lear at the Royal National Theatre.

Sam also starred in David Eldridge’s new play Beginning at the Royal National Theatre from October to November 2017. It transfers to the west ended at the Ambassadors Theatre in January 2018 for a strictly limited ten-week season.

In the five-part historical drama television miniseries, Chernobyl, Sam will be portraying Aleksandr Akimov.

Aleksandr was a Soviet engineer who held the duty of the supervisor of the shift that worked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Reactor Unit 4 on the night of the Chernobyl disaster, 26 April 1986.

He was born on 6 May 1953 in Novosibirsk, Russian. He graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, with the degree of a specialist in engineering and automation of heat and power processes.

Aleksandr began his career at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in September 1979. During his first years at Chernobyl, he held positions of a senior turbine management engineer and a shift supervisor of the turbine hall.

On 10 July 1984, Aleksandr was appointed to the position of a shift supervisor of Reactor Unit 4.
