Shannon Murphy Biography
Shannon Murphy is a reporter at WGAL News 8 in Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna Valley, U.S. She joined WGAL in June of 2018 as the weekday morning reporter.
Murphy is a graduate of both Hempfield High School and Millersville University. In college, Murphy interned at WGAL and always had a dream of coming back and working in her hometown.
After graduating from MU, she packed her bags and moved to the Lone Star State for her first reporting gig at KTEN News in Denison, TX. From there, Shannon happily returned back to PA and worked at Blue Ridge TV-13 in the Poconos, WBRE in Wilkes-Barre Scranton, and most recently she was the News Director and Lead Anchor at News 11 in Ephrata.
Some of her career highlights include covering the Flood of 2011 in Luzerne County when Eyewitness News stayed on the air live for 63 continuous hours. Shannon also spearheaded a community effort which raised thousands of dollars for a little boy battling cancer.
While at News 11, she started a campaign called “Handbags of Hope” where she collected and stuffed hundreds of purses. The handbags were then delivered to women’s shelters in Lancaster County for Mother’s Day.
When she is not working, you can find her running laps at the local track. Throughout both high school and college Shannon held school records in the pole vault and was awarded an athletic scholarship at Millersville.
