Shmuley Boteach Michael Jackson
Throughout the 1990s, Boteach was Michael Jackson ‘s mentor and unofficial spiritual adviser. A few Jewish commentators were critical. “Consorting with Michael Jackson could have the name of Shmuley in the media, but it is unlikely that it would really inspire Jews to go to the synagogue on Friday night,” Benjamin Soskis wrote in Slate.
Boteach was Jackson’s vocal supporter and “dismissive of suggestions that Jackson’s relationships with children were anything but wholesome. Why would anyone believe those charges? They said anyone who spends that amount of time with children must be sick. Well, that’s not Michael Jackson’s accusation, it’s our society’s accusation!”
He also stated: “I was acquainted with Michael for a year before anyone heard about it. I did my own inquiry. He never had contact with the girl with whom he had married, and there are no others. “In 2001, Boteach was involved in “Heal the Kids” or” Time for Children, “a charity that Jackson created to inspire parents to spend more time with their kids. In 2002, Jackson and Boteach had a fall-out.
Boteach released The Michael Jackson Tapes, a collection of taped conversations he had with Jackson after Michael Jackson died. Boteach said it was the wish of Jackson for the conversations to be released: “This book is being written because it was the desperate wish of Michael Jackson that it should be so,” he wrote to the author in the prolog. A second book was released in 2010: Honoring the Child Spirit: In conversation with Michael Jackson, Inspiration and Learning from Our Children.
