Siyabonga Thwala is a South African television and stage actor, television host, producer, and businessman, who was born and brought up in Umlazi, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is widely known for his roles in Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya as Mpiyakhe Zungu, the SABC 1 soap opera Generations as Paul Mashaba, Muvhango as Busani Mojalefa, and in Rhythm City as as DH Radebe.

Thwala starred as newspaper publisher Vusi Zwane opposite Luthuli Dlamini on e.tv’s Scandal! when the first went on air in the year 2005, a role that would earn him his first South African Film as well as Television Award. In the year 2007, he joined the cast of Generations as Paul Mashaba opposite Seputla Sebogodi.

Siyabonga Thwala Actor

Thwala started his career in acting in 1989. He made his screen acting debut in the 1996 made-for-TV movie Born Free: A New Adventure. In the same year, he played a cameo in an episode of the television series Tarzan: The Epic Adventures entitled “Tarzan and the Scarlet Diamond” (Season 1, Episode 5).

In 1998, he was offered the role of Godlieb Mofokeng in the new SABC3 soapie Isidingo but turned it down as he felt he was not ready for a long-term commitment to television. By way of compromise, he agreed to play the lesser role of J, a former liberation-struggle cadre, for a short stint.

In the year 2005, he landed the leading role of newspaper publisher Vusi Zwane on e.tv’s new soapie Scandal!. He left the series in February 2007, but his character was only killed off in May.
