Soni Methu is a Kenyan journalist was born in Nairobi and raised in Mombassa. She was the host of the feature program Inside Africa, she joined in 2014. She was a very lucky TV journalist and anchor. She even quited her plum job on CNN at a time when media was cutting down on its workforce. She was currently the only Kenyan presenter working for the American broadcasting giant.

Kenya: Soni Methu to Be Airlifted for Burial

Former CNN reporter Soni Methu’s body will be airlifted on Sunday for burial. Methu, who died on Thursday while on the way to the hospital in Diani, will be buried at her parents’ home in Eldoret on Tuesday, April 23. There will be wakes in Diani and Nairobi organized by family and friends before the burial to celebrate Methu’s life. The former international journalist died after a sudden illness and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Methu was taken ill at 6 pm when she cried in pain while clutching her stomach and died 30 minutes later on the way to the hospital. Her former employer CNN in a statement sent out condolences to her family. Methu joined CNN in 2014 as the host of Inside Africa and left early 2016 when the show format changed. She joined China Global Television Network (CGTN) until recently when she ceased working for the network.

Her younger sister Faith Methu reported that Soni clutched her stomach and fell to the ground and appeared to be having a seizure. She was rushed to the hospital but died en route. The cause of death is unknown at this time. She was the first Kenyan host of Inside Africa and excited about presenting her home country to the world.
People who worked with her at CNN said that she lit up any room she entered, was very kind and had great energy. Prior to working at CNN, Methu was the east Africa correspondent for South Africa’s eNCA news channel for two years. In that job, she covered the Westgate Mall terrorist attack in Nairobi as well as other incidents and events in the region.

Soni Methu, a former reporter at China Global Television Network (CGTN), has died suddenly after collapsing at a hotel in Diani, Kwale County. Her family says she succumbed to stomach complications on Thursday evening after a sudden illness. According to her younger sister, Faith Methu, the former CNN presenter cried that she was in pain at around 6 pm, clutched her stomach then collapsed.“She started looking like she was having a seizure and my sister-in-law rushed her to the hospital but she died on the way. We don’t know much but a post-mortem will be done to tell exactly what happened,” wrote Faith.
Soni moved from CNN to CGTN early 2016 when her former employer changed the format of her show Inside Africa to have no presenter. The Strathmore University alumnus honed her career at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, starring in the drama Hila and presenting the Taj Show.S he then became the East African correspondent for South Africa’s eNCA from where CNN tapped her in 2014. Soni was on Friday eulogized by the media fraternity as warm-hearted.
