Stella Parton is a music singer and songwriter from America. Parton is well known for a series of country singles that charted in mid to late 1970s.
Her biggest hit being 1975’s “I Want to Hold You In My Dreams Tonight”. Stella Parton is the younger sister of country music entertainer Dolly Parton and the older sister of singer Randy Parton and actress Rachel Dennison.

Stella Parton Early Life
She was born on May 4, 1949, in Sevierville, Tennessee. Stella is the sixth of twelve children born to Avie Lee Caroline her mother. The mother was born in 1923 and died in 2003. Her father Robert Lee Parton Sr. was born in 1921 and died in 2000. Dolly Parton the Country vocalist is her elder sister by three years. When Stella was seven, She and Dolly appeared on a local Knoxville, Tennessee television program. She made her debut on radio two years later.
Stella and her sisters Willadeene and Cassie formed a group that sang gospel music during this time. They also did commercials around the eastern Tennessee area. Parton began writing songs during her high school years. Just prior to her high school graduation in 1966, Stella married Marvin Carroll Rauhuff j. Stella and Marvin have had one son by this marriage.
Stella Parton Recording Career
Parton released her first album, In The Garden in 1967. It was a gospel project with her sisters, Willadeene and Cassie and mother, Avie Lee. She moved to Washington, DC shortly after. She began performing at the Hillbilly Heaven club. Later she started her own record label Soul, Country and Blues upon moving to Nashville. That was in 1975 and released her debut solo album, I Want to Hold You in My Dreams Tonight. It was a substantial national hit, climbing into the country Top Ten.
I Want to Hold You in my Dreams Tonights’ success landed her a major-label deal with Elektra in 1976. Her duet with Carmol Taylor in 1977, “Neon Woman”, was somewhat successful. She scored three Top 20 hits over 1977-1978 with “The Danger of a Stranger”, “Four Little Letters” and “Standard Lie Number One”. In 1979, she also had a top-40 hit with her sister Dolly’s composition “Steady as the Rain”. Through 1979, she recorded a total of three albums for Elektra. Stella performed a song with Kin Vassey for the soundtrack of the movie Rhinestone, in 1984 which Dolly starred.
After she left Elektra in 1980, her chart success tapered off. Stella records and releases albums for several independent labels, including Accord/Townhouse and Airborne to date. Stella has released 22 albums and has had 28 charting singles. She is currently with Raptor Records.Stella has released a DVD, Live in Nashville. The first of a planned Vintage Collection Series. It is a footage from a 1990 concert in Nashville pulled from the Attic Entertainment archives.

Dukes of Hazzard episode titled “Deputy Dukes” in 1979 cast Parton as a starring, as Mary Beth Malone. A woman who impersonates a police officer to settle a family score with a prisoner who ends up being transported by Bo and Luke during a change of venue.Stella starred in several Broadway touring musicals during the 1980s and early 1990s. They include Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Pump Boys & Dinettes, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Parton wrote and staged several Dollywood shows the opening season. She also appeared on The Dukes of Hazzard as the first country artist to have a dramatic role. Parton made appearances in two films in 2006, A Dance for Bethany and Ghost Town. They both are slated for release in 2007.
Stella’s music is included in each films’ soundtrack. Her 21st album was also ready for release in 2007. It is a collection of original Contemporary Christian songs. Her 22nd album, Testimony followed in 2008. Stella appeared in Coat of Many Colors, an NBC made for TV movie based on Dolly’s song. It shared the same name that first aired on NBC in December 2015 by Dolly Parton. Most recently Stella took part in the BBC’s Celebrity Masterchef series in 2018.

Stella gives much of her time to teach at the New Opportunity School for Women. She uses her knowledge of hair and makeup to help women build self esteem at Berea College, Kentucky. She also teaches on causes such as domestic violence. Parton is actively serving as National the Honorary Country Music Ambassador to the American Cancer Society.
She is the national spokesperson for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Christian Appalachian Project. Stella has written three cookbooks, including her recipe-packed book State Fairs and Church Bazaars. Stella Parton has a consulting business. It is called Attic Entertainment Artist Development and Entertainment Consulting. Stella is active in teaching stage presence, hair, makeup, wardrobe techniques and video coaching.
