Washington native Steve Buckhantz is an American television play-by-play announcer for the Washington Wizards. He has 40 years of broadcasting experience, including over a quarter-century in the Nation’s Capital. Steve is one of the longest-tenured sportscasters in the Metropolitan area. Additionally, he is a four-time Emmy award winner, including the honor for Wizards play-by-play in 2008, Buckhantz is in his 18th season as the television voice of the Wizards on NBCS Washington.
Prior to moving back to Washington, D.C., Buckhantz previously worked as a television sports anchor and reporter in multiple southeast markets. From 1980 to 1981, Steve held the position of a weekend sports anchor and reporter for Atlanta’s WSB-TV (ABC) from 1981 to 1984 and with WTVF (CBS) in Nashville.
He worked as the sports director and lead anchor for Chattanooga’s WRCB (NBC) after beginning his career at WHSV (ABC) in Harrisonburg, VA from 1978 to 1980.
