Steve Kornacki MSNBC
Steve was the multimedia anchor and data analyst for much of MSNBC’s, The Place for Politics campaign coverage, which was aired throughout 2016. Kornacki also co-hosted The Cycle on MSNBC with political strategist Krystal Ball, conservative columnist S.E. Cupp, and pop-culture commentator Touré Neblett from the program’s inception through March 20, 2013. On March 19, 2013, it was announced that he would take over another MSNBC program, Up, which aired Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 10 a.m., starting in April.
At the beginning of 2016, Kornacki hosted a daily program from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and was a frequent guest host on Hardball with Chris Matthews, The Rachel Maddow Show, and All In with Chris Hayes. In May 2017, he transitioned away from anchor duties at MSNBC and toward more franchise reporting for NBC News. On May 8, 2017, he was named National Political Correspondent for NBC News Group, with plans to continue co-hosting the 4 p.m. edition of MSNBC Live with Nicolle Wallace.

Steve hosted the Monday edition of “MTP Daily,” “Up with Steve Kornacki” on Saturdays and Sundays from 8-10 a.m. ET from 2013–2015. Kornacki’s first episode aired on April 13, 2013; he later left in October 2015 for MSNBC Dayside.

Kornacki had to abruptly host the rest of the Hardball with Chris Matthews show after Chris Matthews, the host, announced his retirement on air on 2nd March 2020. Chris’ two-minute-long announcement shocked both his producers and viewers as nobody expected him to retire that soon. His immediate replacement Steve took over the show after the break to complete the rest of the hour. Kornacki commented on his retirement saying;
“He knew the dark side of politics just like we all do. He knew about the ugly and unflattering aspects of humanity that politics can bring out and even reward, the things that rightly turn off so many Americans to all of it. But Chris could see something beyond that, he could see the possibility that politics could also be used for something noble, even amidst all that human frailty,”
Steve has also hosted the show before when Chris had to undergo treatment in October 2019. It is not clear if he will be the permanent replacement for Matthews.
