Stewart Madzayo News
Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo Thursday said that he narrowly escaped death after suspected members of an outlawed group stormed a rally he was to address in Mtwapa and threatened him with a machete.
The senator told Justice Martin Muya of the High Court in Mombasa that the youths associated with the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) emerged and surged towards the dais.
“They came all the way to where I was seated with governor Amason Kingi and then Kilifi County Chairperson Esther Kache. Other guests who had accompanied us, were seated behind us” the former Industrial Court Judge testified.
COMING TO GREET US
“As politicians, we thought the young people were only coming to greet us. However, suddenly, the entire dais was crowded and the youths declared that the meeting would not go on,” the senator said.
Mr Madzayo said there was a commotion as the master of ceremonies struggled to get the group off the podium. They insisted the crowds had to disperse immediately.”
The senator was testifying in a case in which Mr Faraji Konde Kazungu, Mr Omar Diofu Gwashe, Mr Suleiman Mohammed Suleiman and Mr Justice Randu Nyandu alias Hangani are accused of murdering Mr Kingi’s bodyguard Police Constable Harrison Maitha Mweni.
