Al Leong was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 30, 1952. He was the youngest of three children born to Chinese American parents. He grew up behind the Chinese laundry that they owned. In 1962, when Leong was ten years old, they repositioned to Los Angeles, where he attended Hollywood High School.
After high school, Leong started working as a camera grip in the flick industry. He ultimately started training in martial arts, and he was finally asked by a director to teach some moves to a group of children on a movie set. Leong did as per the director’s request, and the director was so impressed that he invited Leong to perform the camera moves himself. This was how Leong got his beginning in acting and stunt career.

Leong rose to fame for his on-screen role in popular action movies as “Minh” the henchman punching ‘Brandon Lee’ in a blazing laundry in the climax of Rapid Fire (1992), “Endo” torturing ‘Mel Gibson’ with electric shocks in Lethal Weapon (1987), “Uli” the chocolate bar stealing terrorist in Die Hard (1988), one of the Wing Kong members in Big Trouble in Little China (1986), and a short Genghis Khan in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989).
