John Rocker Career

John threw three no-hitters during his high school career. He initially committed to play college baseball for the Georgia Bulldogs and he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th of the 1993 Major League Baseball Draft. He was promoted to the major league club in the year 1998. In his first season in the major leagues, he was one to three with a 2.13 ERA in thirty-eight innings pitched.
An injury put Atlanta closer Kerry Ligtenberg on the DL, moving Rocker into the work of closer, where he was 4–5 with thirty-eight saves and a 2.49 ERA. He was 1–2 with twenty-four saves posting a 2.89 ERA but he was demoted for threatening a reporter. He began to receive intense taunting from opposing group fans due to his negative character and his pitching performance started to decline.
He together with infielder Troy Cameron was traded to the Cleveland Indians for right-handed relievers Steve Karsay and Steve Reed, together with cash. In Cleveland, his record that year was three to seven with a 5.45 ERA and four saves. He also played that year for the Indians in the ALDS against the Seattle Mariners. The Indians traded him to the Texas Rangers for pitcher David Elder. In Texas, he refused designation to the minor leagues.

He attained struggled at two to three with a six-point sixty-six ERA and was released. He signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays but was released after two appearances and an ERA of 9.00 in the year 2003. He took off to recover from surgery on his left shoulder in the 2004 season. He signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in the year 2005. He questioned New Yorkers to bury the hatchet. After going zero to two with a 6.50 ERA in twenty-three games.

John Rocker Controversies

In late 1999, Rocker’s discourteous comments about the people of New York City were published by Sports Illustrated magazine. When he was questioned if he would play for the New York Mets or the New York Yankees, he answered by saying that New York City is a hectic and nerve-wracking city. He criticized the presence of foreigners in the city and complained about the growing population of Asians, Spaniards and Russians in the city.
During his interview with Sports Illustrated, he criticized fans of the New York Mets, accusing them of throwing bottles, quarters, and batteries at players. His comments irked several such as the commissioner of baseball Bud Selig who suspended Rocker for the first twenty-eight games of the season. The suspension term was reduced to fourteen games.
He was criticized for defending Ozzie Guillén who had used a derogatory term against a sports columnist titled Jay Mariotti in June 2006. He said that, America is a free country and that people should be allowed to use lewd terms if they want. He used a derogatory term against his former general manager John Schuerholz during an interview with the sports news and blog website Deadspin.
In March 2007, he was implicated in a steroid ring. He agreed to use steroids during the 2007 season. He asked about the integrity of other players as well. He was included in several controversies throughout his sports career and he made headlines again in the year 2016 when he sued a company named Partnership Liquidity Investors. He is currently included in various real estate ventures and works as a columnist for a website entitled WorldNetDaily.

In 2002 Rocker made his acting debut when he was cast to play a murderous golf club groundskeeper titled George Anderson in the horror-comedy film The Greenskeeper.
