Philadelphia 76ers

After his collegiate career at the University of Miami, John entered the NBA draft in 2002 and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the 26th overall pick. However, he was swiftly traded, along with Mark Bryant and the rights to Randy Holcomb, to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Speedy Claxton. Salmons spent the 2002-2006 seasons playing for the 76ers, maintaining an average of 4.1 points per game during this period.

Sacramento Kings

John was initially set to join the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers on July 13, 2006. However, reports on July 21, 2006, indicated that Salmons had second thoughts about the move to Toronto, leading to the cancellation of the sign-and-trade deal.
