    Khan was born on March 23, 1953, into an artistic, bohemian household in Chicago, Illinois. The most senior of five children born to Charles Stevens and Sandra Coleman, she has described her father as a beatnik and her mother as “able to do anything”. She grew up in the Hyde Park area, “an island in the middle of the madness” of Chicago’s rough South Side housing projects.

    Rufus

    Chaka joined the band Rufus in 1970 which had a strong R&B and funk sound and gave the world her powerful vocals with their debut album, Rufus when the band released “Feel Good” and “Whoever’s Thrilling You” in 1973. The band Rufus released their second album, Rags to Rufus,  in 1974 with great hits such as “Tell Me Something Good.” As they gained more fame, they renamed the group, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan and later changed to Rufus & Chaka Khan. 

    I Feel for You

    Chaka released the album, I Feel for You in 1984 which covered a single originally written and recorded by Prince in 1979. The track incorporated both rap and R&B and also electronic dance music. I Feel for You won Chaka a Grammy Award in 1984. The album had other hits such as “This Is My Night” and “Through the Fire.”

    Ain’t Nobody

    In 183, the band Rufus released a live album, Stompin’ at the Savoy – Live, which featured the hit single, “Ain’t Nobody” which was Rufus’ last chart success becoming number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B chart. Ain’t Nobody also reached the top 10 in the United Kingdom. After the release of this live album, Stompin’ at the Savoy – Live, the band Rufus split for good.

    Feels So Good

    Feels So Good is a 1977 jazz album released by  Mangione. It contains his hit single, the title song “Feels So Good”, which is an edited form that reached No. 4 on the U.S. charts. The song also reached the top of the Billboard adult contemporary chart. It was also frequently referenced in the animated TV comedy King of the Hill, in which Mangione had a recurring voice role as himself. The album Feels So Good peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Albums chart in 1978.
