Speers started his broadcasting career as a radio presenter on K-Rock station in Geelong, Victoria. He later worked for stations like 2GB, 2UE, and 3AW. Speers then joined Sky News in 2000 where he had established himself as one of the unflappable live broadcasters in Australia. He started working as a host for the PM Agenda program which airs on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Speers also presented political vies wand conducted interviews on 24 Hour news channel at Sky News. He hosted The Nation with Speers program. The program ended in 2015 and on 28 January 2016, he started hosting Speers Tonight in Canberra. However, after spending more than a decade with Sky News, Speers left the station in May 2019.
