Three months after graduating drama school, Burrows auditioned for the role of Kathy Bates in the popular ITV soap opera Emmerdale (then known as Emmerdale Farm) and luckily got the part. The role has been her most noticeable to date. She became one of the program’s longest-running casts, remaining in the show from 1985 to 2001 and then returning briefly in 2005. During her 16-year role, she was abducted by a diamond-thieving lord, hit by a horse-stealing conman, was a target by a double wife butcher who tried to push her over a cliff, caught in the wreckage of a bus hit by a lorry, and got incarcerated for protesting against the local haulage company. Fletcher has been entertaining children for over 25 years and even caught the attention of The Queen who awarded him an MBE in 2008.

He has acquired celebrity fans such as Johhny Depp who has apparently attended one of his live shows. He has mastered the art of making children laugh even without talking and only using physical comedy otherwise known as slapstick. This works well with children with special needs which he portrays on his show Something Special.
