John Scheuchzer is one of the two guitarists for the contemporary Christian music group MercyMe which has been the recipient of numerous GMA Dove and Billboard magazine Decade Awards. MercyMe initially attained mainstream attention with the crossover single, “I Can Only Imagine” which promoted their debut album, Almost There, to triple-platinum certification.

Scheuchzer is one of the original members of MercyMe who have been in the band since its establishment in 1994 after he and Bart Millard moved to Oklahoma City to form the group with the help of James Bryson.

The band was involved in a fatal tour bus accident in August of 2009 after an oncoming vehicle turned left on red, resulting in the death of the two passengers in the car and their unborn infant.
