Briggs fought against Vitali Klitschko in Hamburg in a WBC title challenge on October 16, 2010. For 12 rounds he took a heavy beating and lost in a unanimous decision.

He was taken to a hospital after the fight, where he was treated in intensive care and discovered to have had a left orbital fracture (along with another facial fracture), a broken nose, a burst eardrum, and a torn left bicep. He showed tremendous heart and toughness even though he lost this fight, enduring punishment that would have put most heavyweights on the canvas.
