Ledisi is an American Singer-Songwriter, Music Producer, Author, and Actress who was born and brought up in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. She also depicted legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, Selma. She has released eight studio albums between 2000 and 2017 and is a twelve-time Grammy Award nominee.
Ledisi also formed a band in 1995 after her middle name, Anibade. After unsuccessfully endeavoring to get signed to a major label, she formed LeSun Music with musician Sundra Manning.
