Tamara Mellon (age 52) is an English fashion entrepreneur. She is best known as a co-founder to the luxury footwear brands, Jimmy Choo, and Tamara Mellon. She founded her namesake brand alongsideJill Layfield and Tania Spinelli in 2016. Besides just footwear, the brand also offers a first-of-its-kind Cobbler Concierge service which guarantees repairs on every pair of shoes for up to two years after purchase.
Tamara was born as Tamara Yeardye to Tom Yeardye, a stunt double for Rock Hudson, and Ann Yeardye (maiden name Davis), a former Chanel model. She was born on the 7th of July 1962 and raised in London alongside her two younger siblings, In 1976, her family relocated to Beverly Hills in California in a home next door to Nancy Sinatra. In those times, she spent her summers in either California or the United Kingdom.
She attended the Berkshire-Marist School. Later, she moved on to the Heatherfield St. Mary’s School. After completing her studies there, she attended finishing school in Switzerland at the Institut Alpin Videmanette.

Tamara Mellon began her career at Phyllis Walters Public Relations. In 1991, she started working as an accessories editor and assistant to Sarajane Hoare at British Vogue. Sometime later, she approached shoe-maker Mr. Jimmy Choo with the idea of launching a ready-to-wear shoe company. She secured funding from her father to create the Jimmy Choo Company. They then sourced factories in Italy and set up an office there as well. The Italy Office would handle production, quality control, and shipping.
By 2001, the company had over 100 wholesale clients and the collections accounted for over 50% of the production of several of these factories. That same year, the company teamed up with Equinox Luxury Holdings Ltd. and acquired Jimmy Choo’s share of the ready-to-wear business. After this, the Chief Executive of Equinox became the CEO of Jimmy Choo Ltd. He then introduced a handbag and small leather goods collections.
After the opening of the company’s first store in London, stores in New York, Las Vegas and Beverly Hills followed soon after.
In 2016, she felt like founded her eponymous brand as a reboot by redefining luxury through “designing shoes and breaking rules”. This collection is created for women by women. In addition to just selling shoes, they also provide a Cobbler Concierge service that guarantees repairs for two years in case of damage.
